/About Us/

Utah Water Damage Services

Utah Water Damage Services was founded on a simple idea: when something goes wrong in your home, you should be able to call someone you trust.UWDS is owned and operated by August Wachter. August is a Salt Lake City dad who spends his weekdays restoring homes after water damage, mold, and disasters. On evenings and weekends, he’s on the baseball fields as President of Foothill Youth Baseball Association, where he’s helped grow the program into one of the largest youth baseball organizations in Salt Lake City. He’s currently leading the effort to unite the city’s youth leagues under one Salt Lake City Baseball banner so every kid in the area has a place to play, compete, and grow. When the city raised field rental fees and threatened to make youth baseball unaffordable for families, August organized the community and personally lobbied city council members until those fees were reduced. The mayor recognized his effort publicly. That’s the kind of person who answers the phone when you call UWDS. Someone who doesn’t just work in this community — he fights for it.

As a licensed general contractor, August built UWDS to handle every phase of restoration from start to finish. Emergency water extraction, structural drying, mold remediation, and complete reconstruction — all under one roof, one company, one point of contact. You don’t get handed off to a different contractor for the rebuild. Our technicians are IICRC and AMRT certified, we hold Utah DEQ and EPA certifications for mold and lead work, and we’re licensed, bonded, and fully insured. We work with every major insurance carrier and know how to navigate the claims process so you don’t have to figure it out alone. But what really sets us apart isn’t our certifications or our license. It’s the fact that the person running this company is the same person you see at the ballpark, the same person who fought to keep your kids’ registration fees affordable, and the same person who’ll be here next season, next year, and for years to come. We’re not going anywhere. This is home.

Community First — We live and work in the neighborhoods we serve. Our investment in this community goes far beyond our business. From youth sports to local partnerships, we’re here because this is home.Family-Oriented — Your home is where your family’s life happens. We treat every job like we’re working on our own house, because the families we serve are the same ones we see at the ballpark.Integrity in Everything — Whether it’s fighting an insurance company for what a homeowner deserves, standing in front of City Council to keep youth sports affordable, or running a fair program for hundreds of kids, we do what’s right even when it’s harder. No shortcuts, no compromises.Excellence as a Standard — We don’t cut corners on a restoration job, and we don’t cut corners on the field. High standards aren’t aspirational — they’re the baseline for everything we do.

August Wachter (Owner)

August Wachter is a Salt Lake City dad, licensed general contractor, and the kind of person who can't drive past a problem without stopping to fix it. He built Utah Water Damage Services to be the restoration company he'd want to call if it were his own home,  fast, honest, and thorough from start to finish.

Outside of UWDS, August is the President of Foothill Youth Baseball Association, where he's helped grow the program into one of the largest youth baseball organizations in Salt Lake City. He's currently leading the effort to unite the city's youth leagues under one Salt Lake City Baseball banner so every kid has a place to play. When rising field fees threatened to price families out of youth sports, he organized the community, took the fight to City Council, and got those fees reduced an effort the mayor recognized publicly.

Before entering restoration, August spent 17 years running Auggies Doggies Adventures, a dog training and pet care business that earned a Best of the Beehive award. That experience taught him what it means to build a business on trust, show up every single day, and take care of the people who count on you. He brings that same approach to every restoration project.

Frequently Asked Questions About Water Damage Restoration

How quickly can you respond to a water damage emergency in Salt Lake City?

î ¶

We’re available 24/7/365 for water damage emergencies. As a locally owned company based right here in Salt Lake City, our goal is to have a technician on-site as quickly as possible — typically within 60 to 90 minutes for Salt Lake County locations. The faster we start extracting water and drying your property, the less damage occurs and the lower your restoration costs.

Do you work with homeowners insurance companies?

î ¶

Yes, we work with all major insurance companies and have extensive experience navigating the claims process. We provide detailed documentation, photos, and reports that insurance companies require. We can even bill your insurance directly in many cases, so you don't have to pay out of pocket first.

What's included in your free estimate?

î ¶

Our free, risk-free estimate includes a thorough inspection of the water damage, moisture detection testing, an honest assessment of what repairs are needed, and transparent pricing for the restoration work. We'll never pressure you or upsell unnecessary services. The estimate is truly no-obligation.

How long does water damage restoration take?

î ¶

It depends on the extent of damage, but most residential water damage projects take 3-7 days for drying and 1-2 weeks for complete restoration. We use industrial equipment to speed the drying process safely. We'll give you a realistic timeline during your estimate and keep you updated throughout the process.

What certifications do your technicians have?

î ¶

UWDS holds a Utah B100 General Building Contractor license, which means we handle the full scope of restoration and reconstruction — not just the drying and cleanup. Our technicians are IICRC certified in Water Restoration and Applied Structural Drying. We also hold Utah Department of Environmental Quality and EPA certifications for mold remediation and lead restoration. We’re licensed, bonded, and fully insured.

Can you handle mold that develops after water damage?

î ¶

Absolutely. Our Utah DEQ certified technicians are experts in mold remediation. If mold has developed, or if we detect moisture conditions that could lead to mold, we'll address it immediately using proper containment and removal procedures to protect your family's health.

What should I do immediately when I discover water damage?

î ¶

First, if safe to do so, stop the water source (turn off main water valve for pipe leaks). Then call us immediately at 801-441-2190. While you wait, move valuables to dry areas if possible, but don't enter standing water without protective gear. Don't try to clean up sewage yourself. We'll handle everything safely when we arrive.

How much does water damage restoration cost in Salt Lake City?

î ¶

Costs vary widely depending on the extent of damage, from $1,500 for minor leaks to $15,000+ for major flooding. That's why we always provide a free, detailed estimate first. Most homeowners insurance policies cover sudden water damage (like burst pipes), and we'll work with your insurance to maximize your coverage.

Do you handle both residential and commercial properties?

î ¶

Yes, we handle water damage restoration for both residential and commercial properties throughout Salt Lake County. Whether it's a home, apartment building, office, or retail space, we have the equipment and expertise to handle projects of any size.
